HARTSOP HOP FELL RACE

In partnership with

A new race for 2025, THE Hartsop Hop is a deceptively tough AM, which might become an AL for anyone who goes wrong.

Starting from the sheep pens above Hartsop (as for Leg 2 of the HBMR), there is an immediate route choice to be made – Rest Dodd is the first check point, how you get there is up to you!

North-east of Rampsgill Head, on the col beneath High Raise, check point 2 is the cut-off and must be reached within 70 minutes. If you are directed by the marshals to retire, don’t argue, please return to the start via the path which passes to the north of The Knott and down by Hayeswater.

A fast descent to Kidsty Howes follows with a steep drop to Haweswater and a chance to recover before the runnable climb to Nan Bield Pass. Lingmell End, check point 4, is where you don’t want to end up on the Kentmere Horseshoe and the way back is all against you, but you’ll forget about that soon enough approaching the final checkpoint (5) on Gray Crag. The last descent will test tired legs before a final flourish on the track brings you back to the sheep pens and the finish.
