THE COLDEST DAY

For whatever reason, it seemed we had few real ‘snow days’ on the hill through the winter of 2021/22 but those we did get, were bitter.

Crossing Stickle Gill, the water froze to our studs before our feet touched the ground, the path over Stickle Pike resembled a low-grade ice climb and, in the distance, Blencathra looked positively alpine. All good fun.

Why anyone would have chosen to swim that day however was entirely beyond me.
